rainbow bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....   ~  Paul C. Dahm

Roonie

Rescued April 2010

Roonie came to us as a very sick foster dog. Hollie and Bobbie sensed he needed some peace and quiet and let Roonie sleep on their beds and shared their toys. The first week he could hardly walk in and out of the house. Then he came out of his shell and joined the family. He loved to tease everyone with his tennis ball. He would show it to you but you could not get it out of his mouth. Sometimes he would sneak Bobbie’s favorite toy and carry it around in his mouth like a prize. As soon as he put the toy down, Bobbie would run by and pick it up and hide it.

Mollie has never really gotten close to any of our foster dogs, but her and Roonie became best friends and would play and bark at each other until Bobbie stood over then and started telling them to quiet down. I was beginning to think he would be a good addition to our family and at the same time trying to decide how I could wrangle three dogs. Roonie would come over and put his head on my lap and it was hard to say no.

Last week Roonie became terminally ill and we had to help him cross over the Rainbow Bridge. It was extremely hard for all of us. He became a member of our family just before he crossed over. He had a loving family help him on his trip, and eventually we will all be together again.

With Love Forever,

Mom Joy, Sister Mollie, and Brother Bobbie

Buddy (Clark)

Rescued January 2008

It is with a sad heart that I'm writing you to let you know that we decided to let our beloved Buddy go today.  We adopted him from AZGRC about 2-1/2 years ago.  We moved to Carlsbad, CA about a year ago.

Buddy had a very happy life with us but recently started developing some serious problems that could not be treated as well as having trouble getting around with his deteriorating hips.  Instead of letting him linger in a gradual decline, we made the heartbreaking decision to let him go.  We believe he was about 12 1/2 years old.

Buddy loved living in CA and would sun himself in the yard for hours every day.  He really wanted to go for long walks, but his poor, old hips just wouldn't let him get very far. He enjoyed walking along the boardwalk in Carlsbad and smelling the ocean air and meeting other canines.

We loved having him in our family.  Since we have moved, we have lost all three of our pets.  Once our hearts have healed, we will again be looking for a Golden to love.  Thank you for allowing us the privilege to love such a beautiful creature. He will be in our hearts forever.

Sincerely,

The Polk Family

Griffin

Rescued January 2005

The dog everyone loved.  Griffin came to us in 2005 as an Owner Turn In.  His family had financial difficulties and he came back to us in 2009.  He didn’t like other dogs so he ‘camped out’ with the crew at Horizon Animal Hospital where he quickly became their STAR boarder.  He charmed everyone and had his own set of walkers including his Pal Gus and ‘Auntie’ Yanna.  Griffin started 2010 with his forever family who welcomed him with much love and his own custom made Welcome Home sign.  Griffin become his human boy’s best buddy, and enjoyed running with his Dad.  Griffin’s little girl and Mom loved him too and thought he was the Best Dog Ever.  Griffin’s purple ‘halo’ kept him safe and loved.  Godspeed Griffin – the dog who was loved by all and will be missed by many!

Shadow Mirage

Rescued June 2006

Shadow was eight years old when he and his sibling, Daisy was relinquished to AZGRC because their owner was moving. He settled into his foster home and proceeded to worm his way into their hearts. Shadow was a loving, cuddly boy that shared his “Golden” years being spoiled. Although he had slowed down recently, he still loved his walks. I know he was grateful for the almost 4 years he got to spend with his forever family. Thank you Lynn, Eric, Chase and Andrew for loving Shadow and giving him the life he deserved.

Sugar Bear Kult

Rescued April 2003

It is with a sad heart that we are writing to tell you that our Golden Girl, Sugar Bear, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on April 17, 2010. We were very fortunate to be able to adopt two goldens at once from AZGRC in 2003.  Sugar Bear came to us at age 5 as Topaz.  She picked us out!She had so much hair and was so sweet that she couldn't be named anything but Sugar Bear!  She picked out her buddy, a five month old male, K.C., who became Sundance.  He quickly outgrew Sugar Bear and she often looked at us to say "why did I choose him!"

They both came to our home for their final visit on April 26, 2003, almost seven years to the day that we had to say good-bye to our Sugar.  Even to the very end, she never complained or gave up.  What a blessing to have her for so long!  Sugar Bear came to us as a scared, angry girl whose previous family had taught her to be aggressive.  She left us as the most loveable, gentle spirit who only wanted to be loved and to be with her forever family.  She is a permanent part of our hearts and is very missed.  It has taken this long for me to be able to send this sad note to you but wanted you to know.

Along the way, about five years ago, we adopted a local Golden/Lab combo puppy named Shasta who is also a delight.  She keeps Sundance company now that Sugar Bear is gone.  At some point, we will reach out to adopt again but for now we have two goldens to love and many wonderful memories of our Sugar Bear!  Thank you for entrusting her care and her life to us.  We are very greatful!
