I FOUGHT THE BULLY (STICK) AND IT WON

Howlo from Marley. I promised myself that I would never discuss this sordid episode in my life but my Mom told me that it might prevent another dog from going through the drama. I am a young dog and I like to chew so my Mom got me a bully stick to chew on and entertain myself.  They are a great thing if used appropriately. They help chewing dogs channel their passion correctly and they have kept many a dog out of trouble. So this is the story and I am sticking (get it bully stick) to it. A little dog humor there.

Mom gave me a bully stick which I proceeded to thoroughly enjoy. This is where I blame her not me, when it got down too small she did not take it away and I, well I, swallowed it whole. It seemed like a good idea at the time but it got stuck in my throat.  This is where the drama comes in. Of course it was a Sunday night after 10 PM so my regular vet was unavailable for advice. Mom got on the phone to the emergency vet and of course blamed the whole episode on me. A tough decision had to be made: was it still in my throat and Mom should make it come up the way it went down OR was it further down and should she feed me soft stuff to make it go out the end it was intended to go out.  A bully stick could cause a lot of damage to the intestines going through but bringing it up could cause damage to my throat. My Mom is not a vet, she only plays one on TV, and so she made an educated guess. You do not want to know how she made me bring it up the way it went down but it involves diluted hydrogen peroxide and a turkey baster. I will not get descriptive but let me say it was not a pretty sight.

Anyway the moral of the story is: please only give us dogs bully sticks when we are supervised and dispose of them when they get too small.

Hope to save one dog from the drama
