I was recently reading an article that
said a study found the average dog is as smart
as a 2 to 2 ½ year old human child. Several
behavioral measures were used to determine that
the average dog is a able to understand about
165 words, gestures, signs and signals and the
highly intelligent dog as many as 250.
Personally I think I am smarter than that
because I not only understand that many words
but I know words to ignore like the dreaded
“come” word. Dogs possess three types of
intelligence: instinctive, what we were bred to
do (in my case I was bred to be a princess):
adaptive, how well we learn from our
environments: working and obedience which is
like schooling.
Which breeds are the brainiacs?
I disagree but according to the
studies, Border Collies top the list followed by
Poodles, German Shepherd Dogs and Golden
Retrievers.
So be carefully what you say around us
as we probably know exactly what you are talking
about.
