You've come home from work or running errands
and found your back yard gate open and your
golden is missing. Don’t panic - it’s important
to remain calm and start searching. Here’s
some procedures to help you do everything you
can to locate your boy or girl.
-
If your golden is
micro chipped, contact the chip
manufacturer's lost and found service
immediately.
-
Create
Lost Dog
flyers with a big picture of your pet (color
is best), and your phone number. Templates
can be found on some of the shelter sites
and Lost & Found sites listed
below in item #6. Hang the flyers everywhere, and
talk to
everyone.
Contact all the vets in the area. Put the
flyers up on community mailboxes, entrances
and exits to schools, shopping centers, pet
stores, animal clinics, and vets. Put them
as many places as you can, at least two
miles in every direction. Lot of eyes seeing
his/her picture will be a big help. Talk to
everyone: Mail carriers, UPS and FedEx
drivers, school bus drivers, school
children, crossing guards, meter maids, lawn
services, heating/ac repairmen, anyone you
see in the area on a regular basis,
including neighbors.
-
Walk the neighborhood,
if you have another dog that did not run out
– take him/her with you. They may ‘sniff
out’ your golden before you can.
-
Check the shelters
every day!
Physically go to the
locations below – calling is NOT enough!
They will
only hold strays for 3 days. Put your flyers
at each shelter (listed
below).

Please include your
address, nearest cross streets and zip code
so we can cross reference with any calls
from folks who have found a golden and cross
reference with strays that were picked by
the local shelters.
Also, include a
web-ready picture (.jpg,
.gif, .png, or .bmp
format). That will help our shelter walkers
when they visit the local shelters.
-
Report your golden
Lost at the locations below. Check their
Found postings often.

-
Place an ad in the
lost/found section of your local newspapers
|
· |
Most papers offer these ads for lost
and found free of charge |
|
· |
Weekend ads work best |
-
Once you
find your golden, microchip or tattoo
him/her ASAP
to prevent this from happening again.
And be sure to license your golden.
