SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUN DAY TENNIS EVENT
January 22, 2012

Kids, Golden Retrievers and tennis balls – what could be better!  That was Mark Pachtner’s idea when he started planning the 2nd Annual Special Olympics Tennis Fun Day.  Mark is a member of AZGRC and he and his wife Melinda are foster s for us as well.  Mark asked if we would be interested in participating in this event and we had a huge response from our members who wanted to share their Goldens with the kids.

Special thanks to Bette Davis, Blondie, Casey, Duke, Kayli, Jake, Polly, Sam and Shasta who spent the morning meeting the athletes, families and volunteers.  Then we were treated to a performance by the Arizona Canine Freestylers.  We all watched as a mastiff, poodle and a variety of other dogs danced with their owners.  Not to be outdone, AZGRC rescues Bette Davis, Kayli and Polly danced to a song from Madagascar in full costume and then encouraged everyone to participate.  Before long kids and almost all of the dogs joined in.

It was a great day and we are happy to have been a part of Tennis Fun Day event.  We love the opportunity to share our Goldens and connect with the community and we all learned a few new dance steps in the process.
