Cody’s life was picture
perfect: a nice family, a canine pal and a big
yard until one of the human children developed
severe allergies and it was recommended that the
family give up their dogs. It was a
heart-wrenching owner turn-in. Cody was a well
loved, well taken care of Golden Retriever. He
came to his foster home with his favorite
toy-shark baby and settled into his new
surroundings. Shortly thereafter his picture on
website struck Christine, who had adopted from
Arizona Golden Retriever Connection multiple
times before that she needed to meet Cody. It
was love at first sight.
Cody quickly settled in
with his new pack of Goldens and started his
training to become a therapy dog.
Today Cody is a therapy
dog at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He has
learned some new tricks….. speak, high five and
give paw which delight the children. His shark
baby is still a part of his life and he often
takes it with him to show the children.
Polly
Rescued May 2010
Adopted September
2010
Polly was only a year old
when she was turned into the Eastside Shelter to
be euthanized because she had eaten Oleander
which is highly toxic. She still had an
intravenous catheter in her leg so it was
assumed that her family had taken her to a
veterinarian and decided not to treat her but to
just put her to sleep. The shelter staff
contacted Arizona Golden Retriever Connection
and our dedicated volunteers flew through rush
hour traffic to get to the shelter. She was
immediately taken to the emergency vet. Polly
spent several days with around the clock medical
care. It was still touch and go when she was
discharged. Normally Christine does not foster
young dogs but she knew that Polly needed her
and her Golden pack. The Golden pack took Polly
under their loving guidance and soon she was
blossoming into a sweet, young girl. While
Polly’s road to being a healthy dog had a few
bumps, she was finally medically cleared with no
signs of residual damage to her heart. It was
now time to find Polly a family to call her own.
The search started but Polly already knew where
her perfect family could be found - she was
already there with Bette, Cody, Luke, Maggie and
Daisy. Even Sadie, Christine’s African Gray
parrot knew Polly belonged with Christine. When
Polly returned from one of her many vet
appointments, Sadie said “Polly, ah, ah, ah.
Polly back” With all the members of the pack
pushing to keep Polly, Christine finally decided
that although Polly was a much younger dog then
she normally adopted, Polly had added some life
to her older dogs. It was settled, Polly became
one of “Christine’s Angels”
Today, Polly is a therapy
dog at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and
absolutely loves being with children. She
continues to keep her pack young at heart.
