One by one they pass
my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his prime he can't run and play,
Then they shake their heads slowly and go on their way.

The
story of Freckles has had
many new chapters since the day at the shelter when he weakly
lifted a paw to greet an AZGRC volunteer, his last hope on
earth. The opening chapter is “Hope,” the middle one is
“Courage,” then “Happiness.” His first battle was against a rare
skin disease. What a sight he was, with his raw, bloody skin.
AZGRC volunteers saw beyond that, to the Golden that Freckles
yearned to be. Treatment and a new family, including a special
buddy, a 9-year-old named Ryan, have transformed Freckles.
Donors like you made this possible. But remember that chapter
titled “Courage”? Freckles was diagnosed with cancer. Ryan
stayed by Freckles’ side, sleeping with him on the floor. After
many trips and weeks of chemo and blood work, Freckles is doing
well. His courage earned him a PAC911 Hero Award. One of his
favorite activities now is selecting a toy out of his special
bin and tossing it in the air. He’s a Golden.
